Alex Ariza Pens Contract with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Alex-ArizaAlex Ariza, the conditioning and strength coach, has reportedly penned a contract for 2 years with Floyd Mayweather Jr. the WBA/WBC Welterweight Champion, who has a record of 47-0 with 26 KOs.

In theory, the contract should take Ariza with Mayweather up to the boxer’s retirement.

Ariza helped Mayweather during a few workouts while the champion was preparing for his Marcos Maidana rematch.

Ariza was around the Mayweather area making many fans of boxing feel it was only a matter of time before the champion eventually came to an agreement with Ariza for the coach to take over his conditioning and strength.

Through a statement released on a prominent boxing online site, Ariza said he had just signed a contract of two years to serve as Mayweather’s conditioning and strength coach.

Mayweather only has two fights left from the original 6 in a contract he signed with CBS/Showtime and it is not clear if Mayweather will continue fighting when the contract ends.

He does not have opponents to fight currently and the only possibility for him to continue to get big purse fights would be to take on Manny Pacquiao.

The bout between the two champions would be a huge draw and then a rematch would be just as big or bigger.

Ariza said that Mayweather had told him he needed him now.

Mayweather did not show signs of being fatigued during his most recent victory in the rematch with Maidana, but it is not known how the champion felt between each round and following the fight. He might have been more fatigued that what he was used to in the past.

One area Ariza could be very beneficial to the champion is to help him increase his power by placing more focus on his strength training like Ariza did when he was with Pacquiao during his best years of 2008 to 2010.

With the help of Ariza, Pacquiao knocked most of his opponents out and looked much more powerful then than now.
