antonio tarverAntonio Tarver has been knocked out before even entering the ring. The heavyweight will not fight against his scheduled opponent Johnathon Banks due to a fractured thumb.

Both Banks and Tarver are coming off big layoffs and had hoped to parlay a win into something bigger. The two were scheduled to be the headline on the September 29 card titled Golden Boy Live, in Texas at Hidalgo’s State Farm Arena.

However, Golden Boy has announced that the 10-round scheduled fight was canceled due to the injury.

Tarver said his injury took place over 2 weeks ago and the fighter tried to work through the pain. Tarver is a former champion in the light heavyweight division.

In prepared statement, Carver said he was disappointed he would not have the opportunity to face Banks, but he hoped to reschedule the fight for another date.

Tarver commented that this fight was about making a statement, but that he would return as quickly as he could.

A co-feature bout of 10-rounds in the junior featherweight division between Joseph Diaz and Raul Hidalgo that was announced only this Wednesday has been elevated to be the main event on the card in Hidalgo.
