Chad Dawson Hopes to Rejuvenate Career Against Tommy Karpency

Chad-DawsonChad Dawson the former champion in the light heavyweight division will attempt to rejuvenate a career that is quickly fading when he takes on Tommy Karpency a club fighter on October 4.

Showtime will televise the fight on a card that will include two top bouts that were announced previously.

Rances Barthelemy the titleholder in the junior lightweight division who is 20-0 with 12 KOs will defend his belt versus Fernando Saucedo who is 52-5-3 with 21 KOs.

There will also be a junior middleweight bout that has contenders Willie Nelson, who is 23-1-1 with KOs, taking on Vanes Martirosyan who is 34-1-1.

The career of Dawson plummeted in September of 2012 when he dropped in weight class to challenge Andre Ward the super middleweight champ and was knocked down on three occasions and lost in the 10th on a knockout.

Dawson then lost the championship belt in the light heavyweight division when he was knocked out in just 76 seconds by Adonis Stevenson in June of 2013.

He returned after one year and stopped George Blades a journeyman who is 39 in a fight that lasted less than a round.

Dawson since he returned has had trouble making weight but says he will been in good condition when the Karpency fight arrives.

Dawson claims to be strong and more conditioned after working out with his coaches. However, in his last fight, he was 202 pounds on fight night, and he has to be 175 pounds for his next one.

Dawson is 32 and a southpaw from Connecticut and this will be his first time to fight in his home state, since he defeated Glen Johnson on points in November of 2009.

Dawson has appeared at Foxwoods on several occasions but when he was much younger. This will be the first fight there for him since 2004.
