Floyd Mayweather Losing Bettors Interest

Floyd Mayweather Jr. v Marcos Maidana - Weigh-InFloyd Mayweather is the largest draw in boxing today. However, gamblers in Las Vegas were not that interested in his Marcos Maidana rematch.

Saturday Night’s fight handle was down substantially in most of the casinos across the strip. One of the largest casinos said the rematch did not attractive even 50% of the handle that the fight between Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez drew back in September of 2013.

An online site described the handle for the Mayweather-Maidana fight as being horrible, why others would just say it was light.

A betting analyst online said that Mayweather is a huge draw but that is not translating into wagers at the betting window.

During the past, the fights with Mayweather have attracted some of the larger bets made in Las Vegas, as it was common to see wagers of six figures, with an occasional bet that was as high as one million.

Big money nearly always is put on Mayweather, who is usually heavily favored. The high rollers who never have lost were not around this weekend.

One casino manager said a few big bets came in on Mayweather but not like the past.

Mayweather was a favorite heading into the bout at -600 and improved his career record to 47-0. He earned an unanimous decision against Maidana.

Most of the bets came in for Maidana, which is usually the case when there is such a heavy favorite fighting.

Tourists as well as recreational bettors do not like to put up $300 only to win back $50. Those bettors much prefer to put a small amount down on a big underdog and hope they have a big payday.

Again, on Saturday, that was just the case and resulted with the sports books having a very profitable night.

Forbes has named Mayweather the highest paid athlete in the world but his popularity has been under scrutiny due to having a history of domestic abuse.

The champion wants to fight just twice more before retiring.
