Hassan N’Dam Will Have His Shot at the Title

France's Hassan N’DamWith the winner earning a mandatory title shot for the middleweight championship, former titleholder Hassan N’Dam made certain he stayed out of harm’s way on Wednesday night against Curtis Stevens his hard-hitting opponent.

N’Dam used the entire ring in Santa Monica, California at the Barker Hangar to dance and bounce away from the big left hook of Stevens en route to a 116-111, 116-111 and 118-109 unanimous decision win to set up his title shot.

N’Dam who is 31-1 with 18 KOs secured his shot at the winner of the October 8 bout between Sam Soliman the middleweight titlist who is 44-11 with 18 KOs and Jermain Taylor the former undisputed champ who is 32-4-1 with 20 KOs.

N’Dam was dominating in his decision over Stevens, who dropped to 27-4 with 20 KOs. N’Dam controlled the bout for the start utilizing a tactical game plan supported by constant movement. He worked behind a quick jab while getting out of the way of anything heavy from Stevens.

The Cameroonian, who now fights out of France, put an exclamation point on the bout by knocking down Stevens in Round 8 with a short right to the temple.

Stevens could not duplicate his success from April when he defeated Tureano Johnson with a dramatic final round TKO. Stevens did appear to stun N’Dam in the final second of the last round, but too little, too late equaled a loss for Stevens.

Stevens did not utilize a jab or look to go after the body, which in the end sealed his fate. He spent a great deal of time just trying to keep up with N’Dam and looking to land just one huge matching-ending punch, which of course never came.

The win was the fourth consecutive for the 30-year old N’Dam since being knocked down on six occasions when he lost his middleweight crown in October of 2012 to Peter Quillin.

The loss was Stevens’ first since being stopped by Gennady Golovkin in November of last year.
