A Look at Saturday Night’s Purses

Purses: Chaves $35K, Bradley $2M, Thurman $500K, Alexander $600K, Khan $950K

Amir Khan (29-9, 19 knockouts) will be earning $950k for his fight against Devon Alexander (26-2, 14 knockouts). The fight will take place this Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The fight is to be broadcasted on Showtime. Khan likely will be paid an additional amount from the United Kingdom because it will also be broadcasted on Sky. Alexander is going to receive $500k, as he is the B-side in the fight.

What is surprising, is that the former welterweight champion Tim Bradley (31-1, 12 knockouts) will be paid $2 million in his fight, which is against Diego Chaves (23-2, 19 knockouts). The bout will be on the same night on HBO in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It is hard to understand how Bradley will be getting $2 million for fighting a fighter who is not very well known. It is not like watching Bradley fight a big prizefighter on pay-per-view.

For his part, the only amount of money Chaves will be receiving is just $35,000. The difference in paydays is substantial, as Bradley will walk away with seven figures and Chaves a low five figures.

Chaves could really upset the apple cart though if he wins the bout against Bradley. No one would think that Chaves would have any chance against Bradley due to the huge difference in paydays, but stranger things have happened in the squared circle.

Alexander is really hoping to create a minor upset by defeating Khan. If Khan were upset then it would ruin his chances of getting a title fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

If that were to be the case, Alexander would be a spoiler. He can ruin Khan’s dreams of fighting against the world’s best fighter pound per pound. However, Alexander will not have an easy time of it against Khan.

Khan is surprising quick and not easy to hit, If Khan is dominant against Alexander then he would be that much closer to convincing Mayweather to give him a shot at the title.
