Nicholas Walters Wins WBA Super World Featherweight Title

Nicolas WaltersNicholas Walters battle Nonito Donaire on Saturday night. The fight was action packed from the opening bell and did not disappoint even the earnest of boxing fans.

Walters won the bout and raised his record to 25-0 with 21 KOs, on a KO in the sixth round.

Walters a younger boxer taking a chance stepping up in weight class performing against the talented Donaire who slips to 33-3 with 21 KOs.

Donaire came to the bout ready to fight as he always has. However, he came up against a stronger, bigger and younger opponent who before the bout was unheralded and who will now be a force as a featherweight.

The fight was a great advertisement for a division that boasts many great match ups and possible unification fights. Now Walters is right in the mix.

Walters is known as the “Axe Man” and showed why on Saturday with chopping shots into Donaire who felt the power from the start of the Jamaican.

Donaire when coming under pressure attempted to meet Walters’ onslaught head on. He exchanged massive shots with Walters as the bell sounded in round 2, which was a preview of things to come in the bout.

He was refocused quickly to start the third round but made a similar mistake in that round and paid the price.

From that point forward, both fighters were looking to engage and meet in the center of the ring. Donarie thought he could change the flow of the match, but by the fifth Walters was well on top and in the sixth round delivered the knockout blow that ended the bout.

The bout was nothing but action and Walters showed his talent. He did not boast after the fight and did not need to show any bravado. He produced what was clinical bout in the ring and looks to move forward with chances of more titles.
